Onion Training
At a glance
The Brief
Built by testers, for the next generation of testers.
Onion Training is the EdTech venture of our own founder, Mark and his partner Manjit. They launched it in 2023, drawing on over five decades of combined experience in software testing.
Their mission is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the professional software industry. Onion Training is an EdTech provider for schools, colleges and independent learners, teaching real-world software testing built around exactly what modern employers are looking for.
To deliver that, they didn't need just a website. They needed a full online training platform where students could enrol on courses, learn at their own pace, sit quizzes and earn certificates, all under a brand that did not exist yet.
Being our own business, it was held to exactly the standard we set for every client project, and it gave us the freedom to build the platform properly from the ground up.

The Challenge
One brand, one platform, every moving part.
Learning platforms are rarely simple. Onion Training needed independent learners, schools and colleges to use the same site, each with their own view of courses, progress and reporting. Off-the-shelf course themes looked generic and could not be shaped into the experience they had in mind.
The project covered everything, which included:
- The branding and logo
- The website
- The custom LifterLMS course platform
- The Social Media
Branding and Logo
Peeling back the layers.
The name and logo share one idea, taken straight from the way good testers work. Software is built in layers, and testing is the process of peeling them back, one at a time, until the bugs hiding underneath are uncovered. The onion captures that in a single, simple mark, and it is exactly the mindset Onion Training sets out to teach.
From there, we built the full visual identity around it: a warm copper and deep navy palette with matching typography and button styles. We then carried it through every template, from the course pages and checkout to the email preference and maintenance screens, so the brand feels the same wherever a learner lands.
Web Design
A marketing site that sells the training.
We designed and built the main website in Divi, covering the course catalogue, membership plans, an articles hub, a glossary of software testing terms and a resource library. Every page follows the same brand, so moving from reading an article to buying a course feels like one journey rather than a jump between two different sites.
Course Platform
A fully customised LifterLMS platform.
Rather than settle for the default LifterLMS templates, we built branded templates for every course, lesson, quiz and membership page. Learners see the course syllabus alongside every lesson, take styled quizzes with clear pass/fail results, track their progress from their dashboard, and receive a redesigned certificate when they finish.
For schools, we expanded LifterLMS Groups so teachers and school administrators can invite students, track progress, and download per-student reports as CSV or PDF.
Facebook and Social Media Marketing
Getting the word out.
The final piece was social media. We set up Onion Training's social profiles in the new branding and supported their social media marketing, giving testers a clear route from a post back to the courses and articles on the site.
It was a project that drew on everything we do, from brand and design through to the code behind the platform.
